Winner winner chicken dinner: Viola Davis takes the cake at the Oscars

Actress Viola Davis takes home an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Fences, as the first African-American to win the Triple Crown: an actor who wins a Tony Award, Emmy Award and an Academy Award.

Davis held an emotionally charged and passionate speech at the Oscars on February 26th exclaiming her greatest achievement was becoming an artist “Thank God I did because we are the only profession that celebrates living a life” said Davis.

Viola Davis starred as Rose Lee Maxson, a wife to Denzel Washington’s character Troy Maxson. The film ultimately derives from the theme of forgiveness and peace through family unity and love.

This was especially relevant to the tension in the UNited States due the current political affairs and upheavals.

More importantly this is because she wont he triple crown all on her own. Her pure talent and love for the arts that got her where she is today.

Davis found her love for storytelling through the “only one place were all the potential people have gathered the graveyard”.

“Exhume their stores.  The stories of those people who dreamed big and never saw those dreams come to fruition”.

Viola Davis, tear eyed and humble created a space and moment to be yourself and have the not only just be enough but to change the world and impact people’s lives. It’s an empowering speech to be enough and be who you are through the troubles and turbulence of life. Regardless especially as a woman in these times: YOU ARE IMPORTANT. YOUR ART IS IMPORTANT

If that’s not art, then I don’t know what is.
